Greater Daemons

Well, its time for the biggest of the big guys, Greater Daemons. But which models should I use?

Here we have an assortment of just a few of the models GW and Citadel Miniatures has released for Bloodthirsters (or similar daemons).

Something to complicate this issue, is I technically need 2 of each greater daemon. We added "Exalted" Greater Daemons. These are even bigger and more dangerous Greater Daemons. They take up 3x3 space instead of the normal 2x2 space. These do not show up on the normal Old World Monster Encounter table. They show up in Norsca and Daemon only theme Encounter Tables. But I do need to know what models those will use, so I can pick a smaller less impressive versions for my normal Greater Daemons. To maintain my late 80s through early 2000s styles, I decided to use 5th edition Greater Daemons for the Exalted versions that will show up later. So the most obvious place to get my normal Greater Daemons would be the 3rd edition models.

With that figured out, time for some skulls for the Throne of Khorne.

Secrets no longer Kept!

So I have been unable to acquire the old 3rd Edition Keeper of Secrets. The other 3 Greater daemons I found on Telegram. I did find a proxi for it, that works for now. I can't figure out where I got it from, but the file says it was downloaded in February, so that would be before I joined Telegram. Likely meaning I found it through Yeggi, Cults3d, MyMiniFactory, or Thingiverse.

Keeper of Secrets Paint:

I'm up to 555 monsters painted, 558 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed as of 9/26/25.

Only 3 monsters left to finish the entire Old World monster encounter table.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Finished Level 8 Table and start on Level 9.

Getting really close to finished with Old World Monster Encounter Table.

Last Blog entry I forgot to show off the video off all the Level 8 Monster Groups.

Lets start with the only small guy left on the level 9 Table, a 2nd Skaven Warlock. This guy was the warlock found on the classic Screaming Bell model. The Screaming Bell and this guy I found on Telegram.

Skaven Warlock Paint:
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Sword: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash Staff topper & Amulet: "Moot Green" with "White Scar" dry brush
Staff Pole: "XV-88"
Horns:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Tail, Ears, Nose: "Emperor's Children" Pink
Hood: "Mephiston Red" and dry brushed over with (White Scar & Mephiston Red 50/50 mix)
Robes: "Sotek Green" and dry brushed over with (White Scar & Sotek Green 50/50 mix)

Next we move onto Dragon Ogre Shaggoth. We added Dragon Ogre Lords and Dragon Ogre Shaggoths to our Old World Monster Encounter Table. I took the old school lower Dragon Ogre body and spliced the upper body of the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth onto it. I sized it up in comparison to my Dragon Ogre Champion model. To make the model hang over its base less, I used Blender to bend the body and tail into a more circular shape.

Dragon Ogre Shaggoth Paint:
Ogre Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Axe Pole: "XV-88"
Horns & Spines:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Dragon Skin: "Sotek Green"
Scales: "Xereus Purple"
Hair: "Corax White" and dry brushed over with White Scar

Here are all 5 Dragon Ogres (3 normals, one Champion and one Shaggoth) all towering over an Elf.

I'm up to 551 monsters painted, 558 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed as of 9/26/25.

Only 7 monsters left to finish the entire Old World monster encounter table.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Daemon Prince x5

We have 5 models left on the Level 8 Monster Encounter Table. These are all Daemon Princes. One for Khorne, one for Nurlge, one for Tzeentch, one for Slaanesh, and lastly one for Undivided. These do not exist on the normal Warhammer Quest Monster tables. This is something our group added. Much like Dragons, when one shows up your roll a D6 to determine its Mark or if its Undivided.

1-2) Undivided
3) Daemon Prince of Khorne
4) Daemon Prince of Slaanesh
5) Daemon Prince of Nurgle
6) Daemon Prince of Tzeentch

When looking for what miniatures to use for Daemon Princes, I knew 3 right off the bat. The old school Daemon Prince kit, came with 2 main builds. One that was clearly Khorne and one that easily could be Slaanesh. There was also a special character,  Azazel. Although he was a Slaanesh Daemon Prince, with some minor tweaks, I could make him Tzeentch. These I found easily enough on Telegram. That left Nurgle and Undivided. For these two I dug into Age of Sigmar Miniatures, in the form of Lord of Plagues and the newest Daemon Prince model.

We will start today with the Daemon Prince of Nurgle. I found a proxi STL of the Lord of Plagues. Its mostly accurate to the the real one, other than it has a bloated puss filled right leg, really ugly, perfect for Nurgle. I felt he needed wings to sell the effect of being a Daemon Prince and not just a Nurgle Ogre. I wanted insect wings, as that felt the most Nurgle like. A non-GW company Heresy Labs makes proxies that sure look like they could be Warhammer 40k models, among them is something called a Lord of Decay. I was able to steal the wings off of that, do some editing in blender, and wham-ooh! Nurgle Daemon Prince.

Lord of Plagues left and Lord of Decay right.

I decided I didn't like the 3 horns coming out of the should pad, so I just left those off, instead leaving a Nurgle Sign of three circles.

Nurgle Daemon Prince Paint:
Skin: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Axe Blade, Facemask, Shoulder Pad, and Knee Pad: "Gehenna's Gold", highlight edges in "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash & "Nihilakh Oxide" Wash
Wounds: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash & "Technical Ardcoat" for shine
Intestines: same as wounds with a "Troll Slayer Orange" dry brush before applying "Technical Ardcoat"
Around Wounds and Intestines: "Xereus Purple"
Puss Boils on leg: "Xereus Purple" & "Technical Ardcoat" for shine
Axe Staff: "Rhinox Hide"
Horn & Wing Spikes: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Leather Straps & Cloth: "XV-88"
Leather Boot: "Catachan Flesh"
Wings: "Warpstone Glow"
Chainmail Bikini: "Sycorax Bronze"   /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Next up Slaanesh Daemon Prince. So the old Daemon Prince kit came with:
One of two heads
One of two left arms
One of two right arms
One of two Chests
One of two sets of legs with loin cloth
One of two tails
and always the same set of wings.

One of the right arms was generic, and the other right arm had two arms of which one ends in a large lobster claw. Back in the 90s I bought two copies of the Daemon Prince kit, and got the claw arm in both. I wanted to make a Daemon Prince of Khorne and a Daemon Prince of Slaanesh, but didn't feel the 3rd claw arm wouldn't look right on a Khorne Daemon Prince, so I removed it with a tiny hack saw. I also didn't like how the wings looked on the Slaanesh Daemon Prince. So I got the idea, to remove the wings from the Slaanesh Daemon Prince leaving the Wing arm studs and removing his 3rd Claw Arm as well, and gluing both Claw Arms onto the Wing Studs on this back to make him kinda look like a smaller Keeper of Secrets. Now over 20 years later, I'm repeating this process using Blender to make my old Slaanesh Daemon Prince (just a little bit smaller).

Slaanesh Daemon Prince Paint:
Skin: "Xereus Purple"
Sword Blade: "Runefang Steel"
Sword Runes: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash, then finalized with "White Scar" white
Sword Hilt, Hooves, Tail Spikes, & Horns:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Lobster Claws: "Mephiston Red"
Metal Bitz:  "Gehenna's Gold" or "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Now onto the Khorne Daemon Prince. This guy is mostly the stock build from the old kit, other than I didn't like the pony tail for this head, so I left it off and used green stuff to build another horn. I also left off the tail and filled in the hole with green stuff there too.

Khorne Daemon Prince Paint:
Skin: "Mephiston Red" (I didn't do any highlighting or shading, this was accomplished by the "slapchop" method)
Axe Blade: "Moot Green" then dry brush over with "White Scar" white
Axe Handle, Hooves, Wing Spikes, & Horns:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Metal Bitz:  "Gehenna's Gold" or "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Eyes: "Flash Gitz Yellow"

Moving on, we get to Tzeentch Daemon Prince. As discussed earlier I started with the Special Character model Azazel. I wanted a more Tzeentch feel, so I started by replacing the front part of his face in Blender with a Griffon head I had. Then I changed out his sword with a Tzeentch staff from yet another model. Last change was to leave off the tail, I didn't care for how it looked.

Tzeentch Daemon Prince Paint:
Skin: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Hair, Scales, half the feathers, & Claws: "Kantor Blue" with a dry brush over with mix made of (half Kantor Blue and White Scar)
Other half of feathers: "Troll Slayer Orange" dry brushed over with "Flash Gitz Yellow"
Staff Topper: "Mephiston Red", "Kantor Blue", & "Flash Gitz Yellow"
Skull on necklace & Horns:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Metal Bitz:  "Gehenna's Gold" or "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Eyes & Toe claws: "White Scar" white
Beak: "Flash Gitz Yellow"
Robes: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"

Then our final stop, an Undivided Daemon Prince (one that doesn't follow any specific God of Chaos). So this model took me the most time to figure out. I eventually started with a base of the newest Daemon Prince kit.  That kit can be built for 40k or for Age of Sigmar. So clearly I choose the Age of Sigmar parts. I still wanted the model to be as simple as I could manage, so I ended up using the wings from the old Fury models. I also skipped putting the chest armor or shoulder pads on him. I left off the tail and filled in the hole using Blender. The last detail, was I swapped out the head. I happen to come across a bust STL for the Character "Darkness" from the 80s movie Legend. This daemon was played by the Tim Curry. How could I not use this here?

Undivided Daemon Prince Paint:
Skin: "Mephiston Red"
Horns, Claws, Hooves, Wing Spikes, Leg Spikes: "Abaddon Black"
Skulls:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Metal Bitz:  "Gehenna's Gold" or "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Eyes & Teeth: "White Scar" white
Wings: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Stone: "Administratum Grey" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Loin Cloth & Belt: "Kislev Flesh"   /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

I'm up to 549 monsters painted, 558 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed as of 9/21/25.

Only 9 monsters left to finish the entire Old World monster encounter table.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Dragons Return!

Last time we left off I had 4 dragons done and 2 left to go. The issue I ran into was the white dragon and blue dragon both had print errors. The white dragon's head printed missing half its teeth and I printed the wrong wings for the blue dragon. (White, Black, Red, & Green all have identical wings, I missed that the Blue Dragons wings are similar, but not the same as the others). While waiting for those missing parts to get printed off, I decided to knock out the 2nd Necromancer needed for Dungeon Level 9.

Necromancer Paint:
Cape: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Rob & Hat: "Kantor Blue"
Staff Horns: "White Scar"
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"
Metal Bits: "Runefang Steel" & "Gehenna's Gold" wash both with "Agrax Earthshade"
Beard: "XV-88"
Skulls & Staff: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

White Dragon Paint:
Top Scales: "Emporer's Children" Pink dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Underbelly: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Teeth: "White Scar"
Eyes: "Flash Gits Yellow"
Horns, Claws, Tail Spikes, Wing Spikes: "Abaddon Black"

Blue Dragon Paint:
Top Scales: "Kantor Blue" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Underbelly: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Claws & Teeth: "White Scar"
Eyes: "Flash Gits Yellow"
Tongue: "Genestealer Purple"
Horns & Wing Spikes:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Wings & Head Frills: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

5 Dragons, White, Blue, Black, Red, & Green.

I'm up to 544 monsters painted, 558 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed as of 9/15/25.

Only 14 monsters left to finish the entire Old World monster encounter table.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Dragons! With all their majesty Burninating the peasants.

Its time to start level 8. The normal Warhammer Quest Level 8 only adds Dragons. And really you can get away with only needing 1 dragon as no single Monster Encounter has more than one. However, our changes to the rules add up to 3 dragons in a single monster Encounter. Add a Zombie Dragon and 5 different Daemon Princes to the Old World Encounter list starting at Level 8.

I tried to do another pole across these 11 monsters (5 dragons, 1 zombie dragon, and 5 Daemon Princes) on the Facebook group "Warhammer Quest!". This might have been too many options, Green Dragon got over 50% of the vote, and nothing else got more than 2 votes. So I'm just going to knock out the 6 dragons first, than move onto Daemon Princes.

When a Dragon shows up in Warhammer Quest you are suppose to roll a D6 to determine which breath attack the dragon has. This also indicates the dragon's color.
1-2) Red Dragon - Breathes Fire
3) Black Dragon - Breathes Smoke
4) Green Dragon - Breathes Corrosive Fumes
5) Blue Dragon - Spits Electricity
6) White Dragon - Breathes Chilling Mist

So why not have 5 Dragons? one for each color.

I was able to acquire the Dark Elf Dragon ridden by Beastlord Rakarth, which will work great for a Black Dragon, from Dogs of War Asarnil the Dragonlord riding the basic plastic dragon which will work great for a Red Dragon, from High Elves Prince Imrik riding Dragon to work as the Blue Dragon, and the Wood Elf Dragon to work as the Green Dragon. STL's for all of these were found in Telegram groups. This left only the White Dragon needing a model. The Black Dragon is the Red Dragon will different head, tail and hands, so I figure I could either modify the Green or Blue dragon to make the White one. I ended up stealing a head off the two-headed Chaos Dragon and grafting it onto the Green Dragon to make my White dragon.

During my pole, Green Dragon got the most votes by far, so lets start there.

Green Dragon Paint:
Top Scales, Mouth, Tongue: "Warpstone Glow" Green /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Underbelly: "Moot Green"
Claws & Teeth: "White Scar"
Eyes: "Flash Gits Yellow"
Horns, Tail Spikes, Wing Spikes: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

The model didn't quite want to sit on my base well, so I ended up using some green stuff to make a stone to hold up his right foot. Like most large flying models, I magnetized his wings so he will hopefully store better.

Next we get a Black Dragon. Though really a Purple Dragon.

Black Dragon Paint:
Top Scales: "Xereus Purple" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Underbelly: "Genestealer Purple" dry brush over with mix (50% Genestealer Purple & White Scar)
Claws & Teeth: "White Scar"
Eyes & Tongue: "Mephiston Red"
Horns, Back Spikes, Wing Spikes: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

I tried magnetizing the wings on this guy, but my magnets needed too big a hole and would have ruined the model, so the wings are permanently affixed for this guy.

We now move onto the Zombie Dragon. I initially wanted this model.

I was unable to find an STL of this model.

But I was able to find these two:

The left it a Terroghiest, the right is a Zombie Dragon from MyMiniFactory.com.

I don't like the Terrorghiest for a few reasons. First it has a Bat head instead of a dragon head. Second, this is the body plan of a Drake or Wyvern, not a dragon. The MyMiniFactory model doesn't look good enough for me, but can be downloaded here for free.

I decided to combine these two models to make a Zombie Dragon. Using the Headless Terorghiest as the main body, then rearranging its Wing Arms, into just wings (I removed the hands from the wing ends). I took the arms off the MyminiFactory model and added those to the Terrerghiest body. The last thing I need is a good zombie head. I took the black dragon head I had, carved out most of the left half and then stretched a zombie wolf head into the missing space.

Original Black Dragon head on top, Zombie Wolf center right, and final Zombie Dragon head bottom left.

So with all these combined, I'm ready to 3D print and paint.

Zombie Dragon Paint:
Exposed Flesh: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Head Scales: "Xereus Purple" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Claws & Teeth: "White Scar"
Eye: "Flesh Gitz Yellow"
Tongue: "Genestealer Purple"
Skeleton & Horns: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

The last model for today is the Red Dragon.

Red Dragon Paint:
Top Scales: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Underbelly: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Claws & Teeth: "White Scar"
Eyes: "Flesh Gitz Yellow"
Tongue: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Back Spikes, Wing Spikes, & Horns: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

I'm up to 541 monsters painted, 557 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed as of 9/04/25.

Only 17 monsters left to finish the entire Old World monster encounter table.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Undead Expansion; Part 2

The next 3 Undead Monster groups are all Ghosts. Basically its to add Nighthaunts from Age of Sigmar into Warhammer Quest. Chainsrasp Horde ...
