Wait, didn't I paint these already?

One of the next miniature groups I want to paint is Skaven Slaves. The problem I keep running into is I can't find good miniatures for Skaven Slaves. I then had an idea, what if I instead re-painted my current Clanrats and current Gutter Runner to be Skaven Slaves and just printing new and better looking Clanrats and Gutter Runners. This might work, but the first step would be finding newer Models for Clanrats and Gutter Runners.

My current Clanrats are essentially a proxi of the old Mono-pose plastic miniature that would come in the Warhammer Quest box. This STL is available for free here and pictured below.

I found some STLs for some very old metal models (I think 3-4 edition Skaven). These I found on Telegram.

I selected 5 variations, and printed a total of 12. Some needed shields and I found those separate.

 Skaven Clanrats Paint:
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Woodend Shields: "XV-88"
Hats & Shawl: "Sotek Green"
Skirts & Pants: "Mephistone Red"
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink

My current Gutter Runners is a "build your own gutter runner" STL kit, I found on  Cults3d.com

 Skaven Gutter Runner Paint:
Skin: "Catachan Flesh"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz:  "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Ropes & Belts: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Capes & Face Masks: "Naggaroth Night"
Shirts & Pants: "Dark Angel's Green"
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink

After finishing painting these, I did eventually find some Skaven Slave models I likes, so I just printed off 24 Slaves, and the old Clanrats and old Gutter Runners will no longer be used.

A few blog posts back I painted up the Catacombs of Terror expansion. I needed 3 Tomb Guardians for that expansion and was able to get the original STL. These turned out great and were so much better than the proxi I was using that I decided to print off 9 more, to replace the proxi's entirely.

Here are all 12 painted up.

So that's me printing & painting 33 miniatures, to replaced 33 miniatures I had already printed & painted just so they could be slightly cooler looking GW sculpts.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

First Couple of "Units"

The printer pictured here is what the wife got herself for christmas at the end of 2024. We purchased it from Amazon. You can find it here:

At this point, I like how this is going. I have 3 monsters painted and 1 hero. The assembly line is started. I find an STL I like. If it needs editing I do so in Blender. Pass it off to the wife. If it didn't come with supports, she adds the supports. Then she sets up the build plate, has her printer do its thing. If the print succeeds she, removes the supports and then gives the mini's a alcohol bath. After they have dried a while I give them a UV bath. We have acquired a UV light box, that I think was originally meant for drying finger nails?. It has a nice 90 second button, each mini goes in twice for 90 seconds. Between December 28- January 13 we had printed 197 miniatures. Some of these will be replaced with better models but this project is just humming along.

The UV Light box we found at Micheals. You can find it here:

As you might have noticed, my wife is doing a lot of the work. I don't know how to do supports even still. I don't know how to load up a build plate or start the printer. I'm sure I could learn, but if she is willing to do this part, that frees me up for finding STLs, using Blender, and painting. Yes, I do appreciate her help with this. Though at some point, I expect she will want my skills with Blender to help with projects she will have.

Time to finish groups of monsters, first up 11 more spiders. These went really fast. Such a simple model with a simple paint scheme. These guys were finished on January 7th.

Next on the menu, 11 more gobo's with bows. These guys were finished on January 11th.

Lastly for this post, 11 more Clanrats. To vary these up I gave quite a few different fur colors, White, grey, black, light brown, dark brown, yellow. These guys were finished on January 13th.

Thats 36 monsters and 1 hero painted.

Thats all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Sadly I still haven't got the 3D Printer set up yet. Been like 3 months, no new miniatures printed. I still have a small backlog to pa...
