Tiles, Tiles, Tiles! 2.0

A little over a year ago, I posted about how I got the "Tiny" scale dungeon tiles made. That group included all tiles from the Original 1995 Box set, Catacombs of Terror expansion, Lair of the Orc Lord Expansion, and any official tiles from White Dwarf. It also included our groups mini expansion tiles for Blood Temple (dark elves), Zigguarat (Chaos Dwarves), Traps expansion, and Twisted Tunnels expansion. Thats 44 Old World Tiles, and 25 mini expansion tiles for a total of 69 tiles.

It ran me about $140 to get those tiles made at a local sign shop. Each was printed on 1/4 inch thick PVC. These sheets are 8 foot tall by 4 foot wide. It took only one sheet for them to print out all 69 tiles, they then used a machine to die cut all the tiles free.

So that put me to about 1/3 of the way complete to all the tiles our group uses.

Today, we add the rest.

First up Sewer Expansion. Sewer adds Skaven monsters, Slimes, Nurgle Daemon, and Nurgle Beastmen. This expansion shows up in any region (old world, norsca, lustria). As where ever there are humans there are sewers. Occasionally, tiles from the current region show up in the sewers.

 This adds 33 tiles.

4 Objective Rooms (Slime Pool, Stagnant Pond, Forgotten Temple, Hidden Chamber) each of which has 6 Adventures
4 Special Rooms (Filth Pit, Festering Pit, Leaky Room, Smuggler's Den)
12 Dungeon Rooms (Processing Pumps, Slime Crossing, Flooded Room, Watery Pit, Channel Access, Runoff Room, Watery Lair. Filthy Junction, Slime Pumps, Underground River, The Grate, and the Under Warrens)
13 Corridors (3x Passageways, 2x Sewer Crossroads, 2x Channels, Narrow Walkway, Sewer Corner, Corner Drain, Effluent Corridor, Corrosive Passage, & Slime Corridor)

Next Lost Caverns. Lost Caverns adds Beastmen, Orcs, Goblins, and Wild Animals. This expansion shows up in any region (old world, norsca, lustria). As there are always Caves to be found. Frequently, tiles from the current region show up in the Lost Caverns.

 This adds 24 tiles.

3 Objective Rooms (Tribal Stone, Orcish Throne, & Arcane Den) each of which has 6 Adventures
1 Special Room (Water Fall)
9 Dungeon Rooms (Fungal Cavern, Fungal Room, Rocky Chamber, Deep Gorge, Lost Chamber, Moldy Room, Warpstone Fire, Cursed Throne, & Dank Chamber)
11 Corridors (6x Tunnels, 2x Forked Tunnels, Divergent Tunnel, Crooked Pass, & Shifted Tunnel)

Next Lustria. Lustria adds Lizardmen, Amazons, Fimirs, and Dark Elves. This is a whole region, and doesn't use Old World Tiles.

 This adds 39 tiles.

8 Objective Rooms (Temple of Sotek, Egg Chamber, Prayer Chamber, Chamber of the Sun, Cracked Hall, Bone Pit, Inner Sanctum, & Palanquin Chamber) each of which has 6 Adventures
4 Special Rooms (Stairwell, Crocodile Pit, Spawning Chamber, & Astral Shaft)
13 Dungeon Rooms (Clay Room, Small Sandstone Room, Sandstone Room, Saurus Barracks, Skink Barrio, The Great Hall, Ceremonial Room, Mosaic Chamber, Chamber, Room of Centering, Great Chamber, Cauldron of Xaltec, & Room of Sacred Plaques)
14 Corridors (5x Passageways, Narrow Passageway, Long Passageway, T-passageway, 4Way Passage, Corner, 3x T-Junction, & Temple Stairs)

Last we get Norsca. Norsca adds Ogre Kingdoms, Chaos Warriors, & Chaos Daemons. This is a whole region, and doesn't use Old World Tiles.

 This adds 41 tiles.

8 Objective Rooms (Chamber of Light, Frigid Hall, Frozen Tomb, Ice Giant's Hall, Temple of Odin, Throne of Trials, Ogre King's Vault, Frozen Peak) each of which has 6 Adventures
6 Special Rooms (Small Chasm, Chute, Thin Ice, Frigid River, Suspended Room, & The Gauntlet)
12 Dungeon Rooms (Bandit Lair, Ogre's Lair, Chamber of Ice, Chamber of Winds, Frozen Pond, Chamber of Mists, Icy Room, Ice Gorge, Snowy Room, Ice Chasm, Snowy Hall, & Ancient Ruins)
15 Corridors (7x icy Passages, Twisted Tunnel, 2x Icy Corner, 4x Icy T-Junction, Icy Stairs)

I did also print a few extra things:

3x Pit of Despair tokens for the Wizard Spell. A Cave-In token for the Cave-In event. A Tavern Tile, incase a fight brakes out at the tavern. A Forest Clearing Tile, in case a fight brakes out in the Wilderness.

44 Old World Tiles, 25 Mini Expansion Tiles, 33 Sewer Tiles, 24 Lost Cavern Tiles, 39 Lustria Tiles, 41 Norsca Tiles, and 2 Misc Tiles.  167 tiles!

I went to the same place to get these Printed and Cut. It ran me about $400. So I have about $550 in just dungeon tiles. I think it took them over two of those 8 foot by 4 foot sheets to print this batch.

Sadly, I'm no where near ready to play Lustria ( I have no lizardmen printed, let alone painted). I have no Ogre Kingdoms stuff, so no Norsca. I have the vast majority of Sewer Stuff as I did print and paint the Skaven expansion, though I need about 20 or so models to fill out sewers. I'm currently working on Orc & Goblin expansions, so Lost Caverns is about half available, I really need the Beastmen Expansion to be fully ready to use Caverns though.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Orc & Goblin Expansion : Part 1

Finally got the 3D printer up and running, and now its time to paint some monsters of the Orc & Goblin Themed Monster Encounter Table.

I did a poll on face book on what to paint first.

Sguigs (72%)
Squig Hoppers (18%)
Snotling Swarms (9%)
Goblin Wolf Riders (no votes)

So technically I already have Squigs, but I had printed proxies. So this is letting me swap them out for 90's style squigs.

Here are the proxies I will no longer be using.

New Squig Paint:

Skin: "Mephiston Red" dry brushed with " Ryza Rust" then washed "Agrax Earthshade"
Tails: "Flash Gitz Yellow"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Tongues & Mushrooms: "Moot Green"

6 Squig Hoppers. Hopper 2 & 5 (the two with no weapons) I made by taking goblins of later edition Squig Hoppers and putting them on older Squigs.

I painted these squigs the same as the other new Squigs.

Squig Riders:
Cloaks: "Adminstratum Grey" /w "Black Templar" wash
Skin: "Moot Green" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Wood: "XV-88" "Agrax Earthshade"
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

3 Snotling Swarms

Each base has 7-8 Snotlings and there are 11 different Snotlings across the 3 bases.

 Snotlings:
Clothing: "Flash Gitz Yellow"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Skin: "Warpstone Glow" Green /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood: "XV-88" "Agrax Earthshade"
Metal Bitz:  "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Mushrooms: " Ryza Rust"orange /w "Scar White" dots

I magnitized the Riders, so they can be pulled off. There are monster encounters with just wolves, no riders. Plus Hobgoblins can also ride wolves, so I can use the same wolves for them as well.

Goblin Riders:
Goblin eyes: "Flash Gitz Yellow"
Skin: "Moot Green" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Wood: "XV-88" "Agrax Earthshade"
Leather: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Horns: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Metal Bitz:  "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Fury Hats & Hair Top Knot: "Mephiston Red"
Teeth: "Scar White"

Wolves:
Teeth & Claws: "Scar White"
Tongue: "Mephiston Red"

Each Wolf was painted differently:
Light Brown (far left) Base Kislev Flesh, washed with "Skeleton Horde"
Dark Grey (left): Base Templar Black, dry brushed with "Dawnstone Grey"
Golden (middle): Base White Scar, washed with "Skeleton Horde"
Light Grey (right): Base "Dawnstone Grey" dry Brushed with "Adminstratum Grey"
Dark Brown (far right): Base "Catachan Flesh" dry Brushed with "XV-88"

Its hard to tell but a few of them have White Scar on underbellies, bottom of tails, neck, and underchin.

In the past I would share where I got the STLs to print these. At this point is safe to assume I got these and any future STLs from Telegram. I will only make mention of where I got them if they are not from Telegram as its kinda repetitive to say one source over and over again.

Sadly my painting is really being slowed by how much gaming I do in a week. I play Magic the Gathering every Monday and Friday (occasionally Sundays), and then I play Warhammer Quest every Tuesday and Thursday. I also work 6 days a week. Then I try to find time to do a blog post for each Warhammer Quest session we play.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Wait, didn't I paint these already? 3.0

Sadly I still haven't got the 3D Printer set up yet. Been like 3 months, no new miniatures printed. I still have a small backlog to paint though.

First up, replacing my Black Orc Boss.

None-Games Workshop Black Orc Boss proxi, I've wanted to replace for a while.

This STL was found on Telegram, along with a whole variety of what were metal Black Orcs.

Black Orc Boss Paint:
Skin: "Warpstone Glow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Checker Pattern:  "Scar White" & "Abaddon Black"
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Ironebreaker" Silver both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "Scar White"
Skulls: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Axe Pole: "XV-88"

While cleaning up the Old World Monster Encounter table, I found out I missed something. That table needs 559 monsters not the 558 that I thought it needed. One encounter on Level 9 requires 12 Chaos Warrior Champions, 6 Chaos Warrior Heroes, and 1 Chaos Warrior Lord. This means I'm missing a Chaos Warrrior Hero//Lord model. As usual I found this STL on Telegram.

Chaos Warrior Hero//Lord Paint:
Half Armour: "Sotek Green" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Other Half Armour:  "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Ironebreaker" Silver /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Skulls & Horns: "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Axe Pole, belt, & Boots: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Axe Leather Straps: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Overcape: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "Scar White"
Undercape: "Rhinox Hide" dry brushed over with "XV-88"

Left to Right: Chaos Warrior, Chaos Warrior Hero, Chaos Warrior Champion.

Next up, another Rat Ogre. I just felt like replacing one of the Rat Ogres I had, so all 3 are different now.

Rat Ogre Paint:
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Metal Bitz:  "Ironebreaker" Silver /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Claws:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Teeth & Eyes: "White Scar" white
Tail, Ears, and Nose: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Fur: "Catachan Flesh"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Cloth: "Sotek Green"
Pimples: "Mephiston Red", then "Moot Green" dotted with "Flash Gitz Yellow"

Three Rat Ogres.

Lastly for today, Chaos Spawn. The Chaos Spawn can show up do to some events, items, & enemy spells. But doesn't show up easily until Norsca or one of the Chaos Themed Monster Encounter Tables (Daemon, Warrior, or Beastmen).

I actually want the silly metal one that came out in like 4th edition. I just haven't found an STL for it yet.
This old guy.

But since I can't find it, this monstrosity will have to do.
Chaos Spawn Paint:
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Skin Other Side: "Sotek Green" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz:  "Ironebreaker" Silver /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Half the Horns:  "Screaming Skull" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Other Half the Horns & Tongue: "Mephiston Red"
Loin Cloth: "Rhinox Hide" dry brushed over with "XV-88"
Teeth & Nails: "White Scar" white

So that's replacing 2 models that were previously done, then adding 2 more that are new.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Wait, didn't I paint these already? 2.0

It's been almost 2 months since my last update.

Two major things have been slowing me down.

First my oldest child came home to visit. This was back in April. This is relevant because we turned their old bedroom into our 3D print room. While they were back we moved all the 3D print stuff into the garage. We still haven't moved it back, so we haven't printed a new miniature since before April 15th. I do have a few model's I still haven't painted that were printed before this time.

The 2nd cause for delay is, I've actually got to start playing Warhammer Quest using my miniatures. We have now played 11 sessions (usually 2 per week). I've started a blog following these adventures. https://blackhillswarhammerquest.blogspot.com/

I have like 13 Plates of miniatures set up to print Orcs & Goblins once the print room is re-assembled.

Now back to normal Paint Blog stuff.

I've wanted the classic glorious 80s hair Dark Elf Witches since I started this project. Sadly by the time I needed to print and paint them, I couldn't find those specific STLs.  I found and printed the proxi's below:

A person by the name Ystlund made these (along with proxis for all sorts of High Elves, Dark Elves, Undead, and Chaos). Sadly it appear they got copy right struck, and most of thier miniatures have been removed from Cults3D and other STL sites.

I then came across some A.I. STL proxis that looked rather close to the ones I wanted.

These are very close, but some details are just off and the hair didn't turn out great once printed.

I did print off enough of these to replace the 6 Witches and 1 champion. But before I could paint them, Scans of the originals finally showed up on Telegram

Witch Elf Paint:
Skin: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Hair: "Emperor's Children" Pink dry brushed over with a mix of (50% Emperor's Children & 50% Scar White)
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Ironebreaker" Silver both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Boots: "Dawnstone" grey  /w "Agrax Earthsade" Wash
Armour : "Xereus Purple"

This is the Hag Queen off the Cauldron of Blood.

Witch Elf Hag Queen Paint:
Skin: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Hair: "Emperor's Children" Pink dry brushed over with a mix of (50% Emperor's Children & 50% Scar White)
Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Heart: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Ironebreaker" Silver both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Boots: "Dawnstone" grey  /w "Agrax Earthsade" Wash
Armour : "Xereus Purple"

Most of my daemons for Dungeon Level 1-3 use STLs I got from Tonoborus on Cults3d.com
I like the vast majority of them. But the Daemonettes don't quit hit right, so I found Scans of the old models I used to have.

Here are the ones I was using painted up:

and here are the new ones I finished recently:

Daemonettes Paint:
Skin: "Xereus Purple"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash, then dry brushed over with "Genestealer Purple"
Teeth, Nails, : "White Scar"
Claws: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Ironebreaker" Silver both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Tongue: "Sotek Green"
Eyes: "Flash Gitz Yellow"
Armour : "Xereus Purple"

The new Daemonettes match up to the rest of my Slaanesh Daemons better now.

So thats 17 models printed and painted to replace 17 I already had done. Not only am I getting less done, I'm spending time re-doing what was already done. I'm not going to get the 600 some miniatures I have left done this year, but I'm still gonna try to make a dent.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Skaven Expansion; Part 4 Finished

Time to finish off the Skaven Expansion.

 First up, Screaming Bell.

This is a proxi STL of the 4th edition screaming bell I found on Telegram. The details are just slightly off the original. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Screaming Bell Paint:

Bell Ringer & Grey Seer's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Grey Seer's Shawl: "Mephiston Red"
Robes on both riders: "Sotek Green"
Skulls & Grey Seer's Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Animal Skin Rug: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Grey Seer's Staff Top: "Moot Green" dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (white Scar & Moot Green)
Ropes: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
WarpStones: "Warpstone Glow" drybrushed over with "Moot Green" then dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (White Scar and Moot Green)

Next, we have Plague Furnace.

So the Plague Furnace only has one official model. Its too new and busy for my taste (especially once I have to shrink it down to Tiny Quest Size). So I need a custom model. Originally I was thinking of making it so I could swap out parts on the above Screaming Bell so it could become a Plague Furnace and save the space of having two completely different models. But I kind of like how this project is just showing off the many different "Eras" of Warhammer models. So I opted in the end to take the 6th edition Screaming Bell and convert it into a Plague Furnace. I took the giant plague censor from the normal Plague Furnace, a 6th edition Rat Ogre, and blendered them with the 6th edition Screaming Bell model to get this.

All 3 parts I believe are scans of the original models, I found each of them on Telegram. The stitching of parts together I did using Blender. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Plague Furnace Paint:

Rat Ogre and Rats: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Teeth: "White Scar"
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Style 1: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Style 2: "Catachan Flesh" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Style 3: "Rhinox Hide" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Rat Ogre Clothes: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Ropes: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Plague Ball & Smoke: "Warpstone Glow" drybrushed over with "Moot Green" then dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (White Scar and Moot Green)

Next up Skaven Engineer. This guy makes Skaven Guns more dangerous.

I'm using the 4th edition Ikit Claw Special character for this. This STL again found on Telegram. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Engineer Paint:

Engineer's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Robes: "Sotek Green"
Skulls &  Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Spear Energy Ball: "Moot Green" dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (white Scar & Moot Green)
Ropes, Tassels, Wiring on Spear : "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Horned Rat Totem: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Claws on Gauntlet: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Scabbards for Knife and Pistol: "Adminstratum Grey" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

So I have access to all these cool Rat Ogres STLs, but no where to use them. The normal Warhammer Quest list only needs 3 Rat Ogres and I already have some painted. What if I used them as something bigger and more dangerous? What if I converted them into STORMFIENDS!

So Mordheim has a Robot Skeleton Rat Ogre. Thanquol's Boneripper dies and comes back as a Robot Zombie Rat Ogre. And one of the 6th edition Rat Ogres is all sutured together. If I swap out their hands for Ratling Guns, Warpfire Throwers, and Warp-Grinders, we can have some 4th to 6th edition style versions of Stormfiends. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Stormfiends Paint:

Stormfiend's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Fur:  "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Exposed flesh: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash and dry brushed over with "Emporer's Children" Pink
Robe & Facemask: "Sotek Green"
Skulls &  bones: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Warp-Grinders: "Warpstone Glow" drybrushed over with "Moot Green" then dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (White Scar and Moot Green)

Size comparison: Left Stormfiend, center Rat Ogre, right Elf warrior.

So lets look at all 49 Skaven Expansion models.

Top Left: Doomwheel, 3x Stormfiends, 5x Wolf Rats, Warp-Grinder Team, Packmaster, and Engineer
Top Center: Exalted Vermin Lord, Brood Horror, Hellpit Abomination
Top Right: Screaming Bell & Plague Furnace
Center Front: 4x Rat Swarms, 2x Ratling Guns, Poison Wind Mortar, & Doom Flayer Team
All over the place: 24x Skaven Slaves

The next blog or two will be me replacing a few models I already painted with better STLs I found. But once back on track, its time for the Orc & Goblin expansion.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Tiles, Tiles, Tiles! 2.0

A little over a year ago, I posted about how I got the "Tiny" scale dungeon tiles made. That group included all tiles from the ...
