Skaven Expansion; Part 4 Finished

Time to finish off the Skaven Expansion.

 First up, Screaming Bell.

This is a proxi STL of the 4th edition screaming bell I found on Telegram. The details are just slightly off the original. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Screaming Bell Paint:

Bell Ringer & Grey Seer's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Grey Seer's Shawl: "Mephiston Red"
Robes on both riders: "Sotek Green"
Skulls & Grey Seer's Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Animal Skin Rug: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Grey Seer's Staff Top: "Moot Green" dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (white Scar & Moot Green)
Ropes: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
WarpStones: "Warpstone Glow" drybrushed over with "Moot Green" then dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (White Scar and Moot Green)

Next, we have Plague Furnace.

So the Plague Furnace only has one official model. Its too new and busy for my taste (especially once I have to shrink it down to Tiny Quest Size). So I need a custom model. Originally I was thinking of making it so I could swap out parts on the above Screaming Bell so it could become a Plague Furnace and save the space of having two completely different models. But I kind of like how this project is just showing off the many different "Eras" of Warhammer models. So I opted in the end to take the 6th edition Screaming Bell and convert it into a Plague Furnace. I took the giant plague censor from the normal Plague Furnace, a 6th edition Rat Ogre, and blendered them with the 6th edition Screaming Bell model to get this.

All 3 parts I believe are scans of the original models, I found each of them on Telegram. The stitching of parts together I did using Blender. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Plague Furnace Paint:

Rat Ogre and Rats: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Teeth: "White Scar"
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Style 1: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Style 2: "Catachan Flesh" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Style 3: "Rhinox Hide" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Rat Ogre Clothes: "Kislev Flesh" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Ropes: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Plague Ball & Smoke: "Warpstone Glow" drybrushed over with "Moot Green" then dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (White Scar and Moot Green)

Next up Skaven Engineer. This guy makes Skaven Guns more dangerous.

I'm using the 4th edition Ikit Claw Special character for this. This STL again found on Telegram. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Engineer Paint:

Engineer's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Robes: "Sotek Green"
Skulls &  Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Spear Energy Ball: "Moot Green" dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (white Scar & Moot Green)
Ropes, Tassels, Wiring on Spear : "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Horned Rat Totem: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Claws on Gauntlet: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Scabbards for Knife and Pistol: "Adminstratum Grey" /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash

So I have access to all these cool Rat Ogres STLs, but no where to use them. The normal Warhammer Quest list only needs 3 Rat Ogres and I already have some painted. What if I used them as something bigger and more dangerous? What if I converted them into STORMFIENDS!

So Mordheim has a Robot Skeleton Rat Ogre. Thanquol's Boneripper dies and comes back as a Robot Zombie Rat Ogre. And one of the 6th edition Rat Ogres is all sutured together. If I swap out their hands for Ratling Guns, Warpfire Throwers, and Warp-Grinders, we can have some 4th to 6th edition style versions of Stormfiends. Rules card for this model can be found at bottom of this post.

Stormfiends Paint:

Stormfiend's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Fur:  "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Exposed flesh: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash and dry brushed over with "Emporer's Children" Pink
Robe & Facemask: "Sotek Green"
Skulls &  bones: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Warp-Grinders: "Warpstone Glow" drybrushed over with "Moot Green" then dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (White Scar and Moot Green)

Size comparison: Left Stormfiend, center Rat Ogre, right Elf warrior.

So lets look at all 49 Skaven Expansion models.

Top Left: Doomwheel, 3x Stormfiends, 5x Wolf Rats, Warp-Grinder Team, Packmaster, and Engineer
Top Center: Exalted Vermin Lord, Brood Horror, Hellpit Abomination
Top Right: Screaming Bell & Plague Furnace
Center Front: 4x Rat Swarms, 2x Ratling Guns, Poison Wind Mortar, & Doom Flayer Team
All over the place: 24x Skaven Slaves

The next blog or two will be me replacing a few models I already painted with better STLs I found. But once back on track, its time for the Orc & Goblin expansion.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Skaven Expansion; Part 3

Gonna start with the distractions. I found a few upgrades for my Hero//Lord models for Skaven.

First up, the new Stormvermin Champion//Warlord. The model on the right is my original Warlord. I think its the champion Stormvermin from 6th edition or later (heck might even be a proxi not sure). What I do know is, I would much rather use the old school Queek Headtaker as my Warlord.

New Stormvermin Warlord Paint:

Bags & Tassels: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: ""XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Posts:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Skulls & Bones: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Next distraction model, is Clanrat Hero//Chieftain. The model on the left is my original Chieftain. This model was really old, like 3rd edition, I think it was labeled "Vermin Lord". I've now replaced it with Arch-PlagueLord Nurglitch. I've made him an unmounted version. More on "mounted" a little later.

New Clanrat Chieftain Paint:

Glowing Rock: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green"
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: "Abaddon Black" dry brushed over with "Dawnstone"
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Posts:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Banner: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar" and "Mephiston Red" symbol
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Skulls & Bones: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Hellpit Abomination is a Gargantuan Monster, it only appears on Dungeon Levels 8-11. Its pretty nasty (rules card is located at bottom of this post). I did find the original GW model's STL. Its a 40+ piece nightmare to print and construct. So I went with a Proxi I found on Telegram. This model is called "the thing" by Resinwarfare and can be found on etsy and other places.

Hellpit Abomination Paint:

Glowing Rocks: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green"
Growths on chest: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Fur: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz: "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Tongue, Cuts, & Bleeding: "Mephiston Red"
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Next up, Exalted Vermin Lord. I intentionally used a less impressive conversion for my regular Vermin Lord, so I could use the classic model for my Exalted Vermin Lord.  It ends up being pretty close to the original size as the Exalted models are huge compared to my tiny human sized models. The Exalted Vermin Lord only appears on Dungeon Level 11 and its absolutely terrifying. Its likely the most powerful monster we added to our rules. If you can't cancel his Magic, Ambush A, he can easily party wipe in one turn before the warriors can act (rules card is located at bottom of this post)

The Vermin Lord nearly got me to play Skaven back in the late 90s, its such a cool sculpt.
It was nice to finally get to paint it.

Exalted Vermin Lord Paint:

Glowing Rocks: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green" and tiny dot of Agrax wash in center of each flat side
Wooden Staff: "Catachan Flesh" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Posts:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar" white
Skulls, Hooves, Claws, & Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Glowing Runes on Arm bands and Chest Plate: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green"

Size comparison: Left Exalted Vermin Lord, center normal Vermin Lord, right Elf warrior.

The "sort of" last model for today is Brood Horror. Where possible I want to use models that have a feel of late 90's early 00's GW. The normal Brood Horror model doesn't really fit the bill. I did however get a great scan of Nurglitch and his mount. If I size up his mount (which is normally the size of a horse) to say bigger than an elephant, we have exactly what I'm looking for. The Brood Horror shows up starting on Dungeon Level 7 and keeps showing up all the way through Level 11 (rules card is located at bottom of this post)

Brood Horror Paint:

Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: "Dawnstone" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz:  "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar" white
Claws: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Infected Growths: "Troll Slayer Orange" dry brushed over with "Flash Gitz Yellow"

This 6 legged monstrosity was fun to paint, and needs the ability to be mounted. In our groups first expansion for Warhammer Quest (Lustria) we added Mount//Rider rules. A rider can't be attacked/harmed/targeted until its mount is killed. The movement of the combined models follow the mounts rules, and the rider still fully effects the board as normal with the bonus of usually having a wider base size. When the mount is killed the rider is placed in one of the the spaces vacated by the missing mount.

The Brood Horror can have mounted on it Clanrat Chieftain, Stormvermin Warlord, Packmaster, or Grey Seer Warlock. It took some editing (and more than one attempt at printing) to come up with an elegant solution.

A square hole exists on the top of the Brood Horror's back and in the bottom of that hole I placed a small magnet. This hole is tapered to be skinnier at the bottom than it is at the top.

I created a plug that has a magnet on its bottom and top (its the grey block in the above image sitting on the letter "e" in the "Make A Wish" text). The "plug" is 95% the size of the hole, so it can fit in the hole after its painted. I can use another magnet to pull this plug out and then place one of the 4 above models as a rider (each rider has a magnet on the bottom to keep it snuggly in place). Nurglitch is the base "rider" model, the other 3 are combining Nurglitch's bottom with Warlock, Warlord, or Packmaster. Each rider is a completely separate model from its on foot version, painted with the same paint scheme.

This puts me to 43 of 49 Skaven Expansion models painted. The remaining 6 are already printed, just need to paint them. (Hmmm, the mounts are not listed in that 49, so is it actually 47 of 53 painted?)

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Skaven Expansion; Part 2

So many more rats to paint, lets get started.

I re-printed and re-painted both Gutter Runners and Clanrats with newer better models. Originally I thought I would re-paint my old Gutter Runners and Clanrats to be Skaven Slaves, because I was having trouble finding suitable STLs for Slaves. Then Telegram came through for me with some very old Skaven Slave STLs.

I figured I wanted these different types of skaven to stand out from each other. Clanrats have a light brown color, while Gutter Runners have a dark brown color, and I'm giving Skaven Slaves a dirty White color.

Here you can see the different paint schemes between the different types of skaven. Back row with Stormvermin and Plague Monk. Front row with Slave, Gutter Runner, and Clanrat.

The Slaves STLs I have had quite a few variations to choose from, I picked 12 different models and printed each one twice as I needed 24 Skaven Slaves. Monster Card for this model found at bottom of this post.

The variations are slight, wearing Shawl, no Shawl, eye patch, has Sling, Sword, Club, Spear or Cleaver.

All 24 together.

Of coarse, pink tails.

Skaven Slaves Paint:
Slings & Belts: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Skin: "White Scar"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash, then dry brushed over again with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz: "Runefang Steel"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Clubs, Spears, & Leather Straps:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Shawl: "Adminstratum Grey"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

On March 4th, I did another poll on the Facebook Group "Warhammer Quest!" on what I should paint next. The results were as follows:

Wolf Rats: 33% -First
Doomwheel: 21% - 2nd
Brood Horror, Hellpit Abomination, & Exalted Vermin Lord: each at 13% - 3rd three way tie
Screaming Bell: 6% - dead last

The STL for these were found on Telegram. I believe these are a proxi for the Forge-World Wolf Rats. These add a Skaven Cavalry model like Warhound or Chaos Hounds to our Sewer Encounters list. Monster Card for this model found at bottom of this post.

Wolf Rats Paint:

Skin: "Catachan Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur:  "Aboddon Black" dry brushed over with  "Adminstratum Grey"
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Lastly for today, Doomwheel!

Another STL found on Telegram. Monster Card for this model found at bottom of this post.

Doomwheel Paint:

Driver's Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Driver's Shawl: "Xereus Purple" dry brushed over with "Genestealer Purple"
Driver's Claws: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" Wash
Rats in Hamster Wheel & Driver's Robes & Gloves: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink
Metal Bitz: "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar"
Wood Parts: "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Control Nobs & Seat Cusion: "Mephiston Red" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Spikes, Engine Coils, & Round Jars: "Moot Green" dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (white Scar & Moot Green ) then just "White Scar" on edges
Springs & Lightning Bolts: "Flash Gitz Yellow" dry brushed over with 50/50 mix (white Scar & Flash Gitz Yellow )

This puts me to 40 of 49 models I need for the Skaven Monster Encounter list.

You may have noticed my number of posts has really slowed down. I've hit a few things that are slowing my progress. First, I keep deciding to redo older models. Then many of the models I want don't really exists in the style I want so I'm having to make them in blender myself. Can't wait to show you my "retro" Stormfiends! Then in my personal life, I fell way behind on bills and had to start working Saturdays. One less day a week to work with blender, 3D printing, and painting.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

Skaven Expansion; Part 4 Finished

Time to finish off the Skaven Expansion.  First up, Screaming Bell.  This is a proxi STL of the 4th edition screaming bell I found on Tele...
