Yet another Distraction Project (or two)

So one major challenge of Warhammer Quest, is if you happen to get all models assembled & Painted, is how do you store them?

To this point I have been using dollar store cooking sheets, and then putting tiny magnets in the base of each model.  I had layouts for each of the 6 cookie sheets needed for Old World. However, this was insufficient, since it balloons to needing 12 cookie sheet once we add in the expansion plus themed monster encounter tables. These cookie sheets are rather small ( 13 inches by  9 inches). I had also been limiting myself to only a few Base sizes (20mm normal, 20 by 40mm cavalry, 40mm Large, 60mm Gargantuan, and 40 by 80mm Gargantuan Cavalry).

This means shrinking some models to odd looking sizes. Trolls, Minotaurs, & Ogres fitting on the same base as humans looks weird, but putting them on Large Bases would be even stranger. Also this puts a size cap on large monsters. Dragons, Hydra, Wyverns, feel to dainty on Large bases that work rather well for Juggernauts and Fiends of Slaanesh.

The Gargantuan base sizes have an issue too, its hard to tell how many spaces they are taking up. Normal Garantuans are suppose to take up 3x3 and Cav Garg are suppose to take up 2x4, but since the dungeon squares are 25mm by 25mm, but these bases are 40 by 80mm and 60 by 600mm respectively they only fill about 2/3 of the area available.

Then on top of this, I wanted to let tiny models be two models per dungeon square. So this would need a size smaller than normal. We are currently play testing small rules, this will make small monsters more dangerous as they gang up in even more terrifying numbers. Normally a single warrior can be surrounded by 8 monsters at most, this will allow for 16 small monsters at one time. Though usually if the party "squares up", 5 monsters at most normally, but 10 small monsters now.

So I'm adding 3 new sizes and making both Gargantuan sizes bigger.

These new sizes mean my old layouts won't work any more. I'd either need to jump to like 16 cookie sheets or get bigger cookie sheets. Its about this time my wife found extra large cookie sheets at Sam's Club.  These are roughly twice the size of the old sheets (18 inches x 13 inches). Allowing me to get away with only needing 10 big cookie sheets.

This leads to another problem. Although I have it memorized where each model goes on its cookie sheet, my players do not. Monsters were often being placed in the wrong spot, or I'd have to go help put them away. (It makes the game play faster if each player takes on different responsibilities, ie Player A does treasures, Player B does Dungeon Tiles, Player C does monster Cards and Equipment, Player D grabs and returns Monster Models).

So I need a labeling system. I have access to shipping label stickers and a printer, so with finalized base sizes and new extra large cookie sheets, its time to make some labels.

Undead Cookie Sheet. Only models missing for Undead is 3 Riders (1 Necromancer to ride Manticore, 1 Lich to Ride Zombie Dragon, and 1 Wight Lord to Ride Zombie Dragon).

Daemon Cookie Sheet. So many Daemons missing, much of Nurgle Shows up in Sewer Expansion, rest show up in Norsca Expansion.

Miscellaneous Monsters and Ogre Kingdoms Cookie Sheet. Ogre Kingdoms show up in Norsca Expansion. I'm probably going to do Norsca Expansion last, so thats a long way off. Hopefully by the end of next year.

Orc & Goblin Cookie Sheet. Currently all missing models are printed and I'm slowly painting through them.

Chaos Warriors & Beastmen Cookie Sheet. Many Nurgle related stuff shows up in Sewer, most of the rest shows up in Norsca, and everything else in Lost Caverns.

Chaos Dwarf Cookie Sheet. Has a few Beastmen Gargantuan Monsters that didn't fit on their sheet. All the missing Chaos Dwarves only show up on the Chaos Dwarf Themed Encounter list.

Dark Elf Cookie Sheet. Of those missing a chunk  show up in Lustria and the rest only on the Dark Elf Themed Encounter list.

Lizardmen & Lustria Cookie Sheet. Only thing done on this sheet is 3 Chaos Trolls. I think I'm going to concentrate on Lustria after I finish the Orc & Gobins and Sewer Expansion models.

Heroes & NPC Cookie Sheet. I apparently don't have enough projects, I'm currently working to make a Male and Female version of each playable class mostly trying to use Games Workshop models, preferable pre-Age of Sigmar. I currently have 70% of the alternates found and set up to print.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.
