Large Monsters and a finished Level 5 chart!

Three Large Monsters left and we finish the Level 5 Monster Encounter table. On August 8th I again put the order to a poll on the Facebook Group "Warhammer Quest!"

1st - Cockatrice

2nd - Dragon Ogre Champion

3rd - Griffon

So which Cockatrice should I use? The really old (marauder)  model is a bit small and scrawny. The newer one doesn't look like a Cockatrice to me. It doesn't have the Comb (fleshy thing on top of its head) nor does it have a Wattle (flesh that dangles under its beak). I think its a cool model, its just not a a Cockatrice.

Newer GW Cockatrice to left
Ancient Maurader Cockatrice to right.

I searched the usually STL websites for a better model (Cults3d, Myminifactory, Thingiverse). The best one I found was this guy.

Link for this above picture.

Here is my guy painted up.

Here he is again, with an Elf for size comparison.

"Warpstone Glow" for Body and wing borders, "Administratum Grey" feathers dry brushed over with "White Scar". "Troll Slayer Orange" around eyes, "Mephiston Red" Wings, Comb, and Wattle. "Flesh Gits Yellow" eyes, legs, & feet. "Screaming Skull" for beak, washed it with "Skeleton Horde". Wash green, red, and yellow parts with "Agrax Earthshade". "Scar White" toe claws and all done.

I paid like $10-15 for these scans on Cults3d.com, they later got removed for copy right issues. They are available on Telegram for free. I made the champion model about 20% larger than the normal 3 printed earlier. Same paint scheme here as with the normal Dragon Ogres from DL 4.

Dragon Ogre Champion

Here we see the Champion with his slightly smaller brothers.

Comparison of Normal size left to Tiny Quest size right.
Just for fun size comparisons, left to right:
Normal size Metal Shaggoth, Normal size Plastic Dragon Ogre, Normal Size Metal old Dragon Ogre, Tiny Quest Dragon Ogre Champion, Tiny Quest normal Dragon Ogre.

Last mini for today is the Griffon. The original rules had a Griffon and Hippogriff. Stat wise the only difference between them was like 1 initiative. We ended up replacing every Hippogriff with just a Griffon to save having to buy, paint, and store one more model.

I found this STL in the Telegram group for Warhammer Scans.

I did a google search for paint ideas and came across this:

I really like the Bengal tiger look of the back half on the first paint scheme.

"Administratum Grey" light feathers dry brushed over with "White Scar". "Catachan Flesh" dark feathers dry brushed over with "XV-88". "Troll Slayer Orange" legs with "Abaddon Black" stripes. "Flesh Gits Yellow" beak and front feet. "Agrax Earthshade" to wash front feet. "Scar White" toe claws and teeth. "Mephiston Red" tongue.

This completes the Dungeon Level 5 Monster Encounter Table. Below a video of all monsters needed for that table.

I was getting close to having all printed models painted, so the wife got back to printing some of the missing models.

I'm up to 524 monsters painted, 542 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed as of 8/14/25.

Only 34 monsters left to finish the entire Old World monster encounter table.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

DeMagic Tutor out.
