Skaven Expansion; Part 3

Gonna start with the distractions. I found a few upgrades for my Hero//Lord models for Skaven.

First up, the new Stormvermin Champion//Warlord. The model on the right is my original Warlord. I think its the champion Stormvermin from 6th edition or later (heck might even be a proxi not sure). What I do know is, I would much rather use the old school Queek Headtaker as my Warlord.

New Stormvermin Warlord Paint:

Bags & Tassels: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: ""XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Posts:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Skulls & Bones: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Next distraction model, is Clanrat Hero//Chieftain. The model on the left is my original Chieftain. This model was really old, like 3rd edition, I think it was labeled "Vermin Lord". I've now replaced it with Arch-PlagueLord Nurglitch. I've made him an unmounted version. More on "mounted" a little later.

New Clanrat Chieftain Paint:

Glowing Rock: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green"
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: "Abaddon Black" dry brushed over with "Dawnstone"
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Posts:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Banner: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar" and "Mephiston Red" symbol
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Skulls & Bones: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Hellpit Abomination is a Gargantuan Monster, it only appears on Dungeon Levels 8-11. Its pretty nasty (rules card is located at bottom of this post). I did find the original GW model's STL. Its a 40+ piece nightmare to print and construct. So I went with a Proxi I found on Telegram. This model is called "the thing" by Resinwarfare and can be found on etsy and other places.

Hellpit Abomination Paint:

Glowing Rocks: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green"
Growths on chest: "Flash Gitz Yellow" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Fur: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz: "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Tongue, Cuts, & Bleeding: "Mephiston Red"
Teeth & Claws: "White Scar" white
Noses, Tails, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash

Next up, Exalted Vermin Lord. I intentionally used a less impressive conversion for my regular Vermin Lord, so I could use the classic model for my Exalted Vermin Lord.  It ends up being pretty close to the original size as the Exalted models are huge compared to my tiny human sized models. The Exalted Vermin Lord only appears on Dungeon Level 11 and its absolutely terrifying. Its likely the most powerful monster we added to our rules. If you can't cancel his Magic, Ambush A, he can easily party wipe in one turn before the warriors can act (rules card is located at bottom of this post)

The Vermin Lord nearly got me to play Skaven back in the late 90s, its such a cool sculpt.
It was nice to finally get to paint it.

Exalted Vermin Lord Paint:

Glowing Rocks: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green" and tiny dot of Agrax wash in center of each flat side
Wooden Staff: "Catachan Flesh" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: "Corax White" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz: "Gehenna's Gold" & "Runefang Steel" both /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Wood Posts:  "XV-88" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar" white
Skulls, Hooves, Claws, & Horns: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Glowing Runes on Arm bands and Chest Plate: "Warpstone Glow" dry brushed over with "Moot Green"

The "sort of" last model for today is Brood Horror. Where possible I want to use models that have a feel of late 90's early 00's GW. The normal Brood Horror model doesn't really fit the bill. I did however get a great scan of Nurglitch and his mount. If I size up his mount (which is normally the size of a horse) to say bigger than an elephant, we have exactly what I'm looking for. The Brood Horror shows up starting on Dungeon Level 7 and keeps showing up all the way through Level 11 (rules card is located at bottom of this post)

Brood Horror Paint:

Skin: "Kislev Flesh"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Fur: "Dawnstone" dry brushed over with "White Scar"
Metal Bitz:  "Runefang Steel" /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Teeth: "White Scar" white
Claws: "Screaming Skull"  /w "Skeleton Horde" wash
Nose, Tail, and Ears: "Emporer's Children" Pink /w "Agrax Earthshade" Wash
Infected Growths: "Troll Slayer Orange" dry brushed over with "Flash Gitz Yellow"

This 6 legged monstrosity was fun to paint, and needs the ability to be mounted. In our groups first expansion for Warhammer Quest (Lustria) we added Mount//Rider rules. A rider can't be attacked/harmed/targeted until its mount is killed. The movement of the combined models follow the mounts rules, and the rider still fully effects the board as normal with the bonus of usually having a wider base size. When the mount is killed the rider is placed in one of the the spaces vacated by the missing mount.

The Brood Horror can have mounted on it Clanrat Chieftain, Stormvermin Warlord, Packmaster, or Grey Seer Warlock. It took some editing (and more than one attempt at printing) to come up with an elegant solution.

A square hole exists on the top of the Brood Horror's back and in the bottom of that hole I placed a small magnet. This hole is tapered to be skinnier at the bottom than it is at the top.

I created a plug that has a magnet on its bottom and top (its the grey block in the above image sitting on the letter "e" in the "Make A Wish" text). The "plug" is 95% the size of the hole, so it can fit in the hole after its painted. I can use another magnet to pull this plug out and then place one of the 4 above models as a rider (each rider has a magnet on the bottom to keep it snuggly in place). Nurglitch is the base "rider" model, the other 3 are combining Nurglitch's bottom with Warlock, Warlord, or Packmaster. Each rider is a completely separate model from its on foot version, painted with the same paint scheme.

This puts me to 43 of 49 Skaven Expansion models painted. The remaining 6 are already printed, just need to paint them. (Hmmm, the mounts are not listed in that 49, so is it actually 47 of 53 painted?)

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

DeMagic Tutor out.
