But do they stick together?

At this point I have almost 100 miniatures painted. I knew as I started this project I would eventually want all monsters and heroes magnetized for ease of storage and/or transportation. It took a little research but the wife and I found a great deal on some reasonably powerful but tiny magnets. 750 magnets for under $50. I'm assuming I'll put one magnet per model on a normal base, two magnets per Cavalry base, and three magnets per large base. I haven't actually done the math to figure out if 750 magnets is enough, it will be close, but after I'm done with the 558 monsters for Old World the plan is to continue on and do the expansions we wrote which will go well beyond the need of 750, so I'll need to make a 2nd order eventually anyways.

These magnets are 1/8 inch Diameter circles that are 1/16 inch height. Pull force rating of 1/2 pound. I can put over 150 models each with their own magnet on a cookie sheet and hold the whole thing upside down with no fear of any of them falling off. These magnets can be found here.

The bases I had made to this point, had no holes for magnets. Resin is kinda nasty stuff you don't want to breath in. So I ended up using full dust mask and goggles while dremel drilling holes for the magnets.

For all future models and to save tons of time, I edited the base I use in Blender, to have the hole pre-built into the print. The hole is slightly off center so its directly under a large square tile on the top. I do have to take a 1/6 drill bit and hand turn the bit to clean the hole, so the magnets fit neatly inside.

Here is a photo of the 92 miniatures already painted, all magnetized to a cookie sheet. We bought the cookie sheets at Dollor General store, they were under $2 each. The important part here was each cookie sheet is made of a metal that magnets stick to and that they were identical in shape so later I can build a box for them to slide into. This puts me up to 92 monsters painted & magnetized, 250 monsters 3D printed of the 558 needed. As of February 13th, 2025.

That's all for this post, may your lantern always stay lit.

DeMagic Tutor out.
