Tonoborus provides quite a few of his miniatures for free.
The above pack of 5, can be downloaded for free here.
Before I dug too deep into making my own copy of Warhammer Quest and fully committing to the "Tiny" scale of 2/3rds size, I probably should test the quality of my printer and how good I am at painting at this size. Where else to start but the Free pack. The quality of the print is great. I love the "cutsie" feel of these guys, and they paint well.
I did the spider first. This minature is very simple. Makes speed painting them great. The eyes are a bit of a pain to paint at this scale, but flat black with a grey dry brush, then pick out some yellow for 8 eyes, some red fangs, and a nice red hour glass on the behind. Yes, blackwidow's hourglass is on the underside not the top, but hey this is a fantasy world, we get to make up the biology of its inhabitants.
Tonoborus seemed to have designed these spiders with the idea that they would have no base. I however, knew eventually I would want to magnitize these for easy of storage. Luckily they have a flat spot on the underside that glues down well.
Next up, Goblin Archer.
Simple Night Goblin paint scheme with Red Shoes, Brown bow, pick out some metal bits, gray for highlights.
Next, Skaven Clanrat.
I like pink on my rats. Pink nose, Pink ears, Pink tail. I think if I had these guys to do again, I wouldn't do the pink lips or pink hands. Later Skaven will not have these features.
Final mini for this post, The Elf, my first warrior.
I kept mostly with the classic paint scheme from the original 1995 box. Yellow and Green. Apparently a fan of Green Bay Packers. The Red/White triangles on waist and arms sort of turned out. But hey, at this scale quite happy with the result.
I did print the Minotaur. However, this miniature has something I've always despised: human feet instead of hooves. I would need a fix for this, but thats a problem for another day and another post.
Thats all for today, may your lantern always stay lit.
DeMagic Tutor out.
